Sometimes the new needs to be renewed

Imagine if I wrote on this new whiteboard every math class all school year and never cleaned it. It might be new, but it still gets dingy and needs to get cleaned up sometimes.

Titus 3:5 says, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” If Jesus is your Savior, you’ve been renewed ultimately once and for all, but we still need to keep growing.

1 John 3:2 says, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Salvation happens the moment you place your faith in Jesus Christ and lasts for all eternity. But sanctification, the process of becoming more and more like Jesus, lasts the rest of our lives and won’t be done until we get to heaven.

But why not keep taking steps in that right direction toward becoming more like Jesus today?

Have any new areas of your heart and life gotten a bit “dingy” and need some renewing? I know temptation, sin, wrong choices, and my own wrong desires often start to cover up the good that God is doing in my life. I’m still saved. I’m still made new. But I need some renewing in those areas.

If you’ve been made new, keep allowing Jesus to make you more and more like Him, even in those dingy areas of your heart and life.
