Can’t have peanut butter without…

Peanut butter without jelly would be like mornings without coffee…it just doesn’t work!

Sometimes you can’t have one thing without the other, and an even more important example of that truth is this: We can’t have a right relationship with God without a heart that’s right with God. Faking it in the outside just won’t cut it.

Zephaniah 1:4-5 says, “I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place,

and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; 5 And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD,

and that swear by Malcham;”

I was surprised to see “them that worship and that swear by the LORD” on this list of people headed for God’s judgement. After all, outwardly they did a lot for God…at least a lot of superficial, showy, noticeable things. But inwardly they were far from God.

I’m thankful for what Zephaniah 2:3 says to these people (and really to us as well): “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger.” God offers mercy and forgiveness, but the choice is ours.

Will we do our best to be right with God inside and out or try to have a right relationship on the outside despite a wrong relationship with Him in our hearts?
