I love the enthusiasm and excited curiosity that a new puppy has! I know our dog Cleo will calm down as she gets older, but I hope she never loses that first-love interest in everything.
Sadly, many Christians lose their first love, that pure passion and enthusiasm that we once had for our Savior Jesus Christ.
Revelation 2:4 says, “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”
The church Jesus was talking to did a lot of really good stuff. But apparently they had lost their heart along the way, their first love. Sounds like they were more or less just going through the motions.
Reminds me of myself sometimes unfortunately. But thankfully Jesus has fresh help, fresh mercy, fresh grace, and fresh opportunities for us every single day. Let’s bring that wide-eyed first-love kind of energy to our relationship with Jesus every single day!
