Have you ever worked HARD and felt like you couldn’t even tell what you did? The girls had fun illustrating that sort of frustration when I asked them to try to get water out of their pool…using only strainers with lots of holes in them!
Haggai 1:6 says, “Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.”
The context of Haggai 1 is fun to dig into, and it basically boils down to the fact that they were putting God second, and God couldn’t bless anything else they were doing. Their hard work was mostly wasted. On the other hand, when we put God first, He loves to bless us and make our efforts count beyond what we could ever do on our own.
It’s a great quote that says, “Only one life, 'twill soon be past, Only what's done for Christ will last.” Let’s put God first instead of living for the temporary.
