When the best we can do is to just stumble ahead one foot at a time

Put your head on the bat, spin around 5 times, and then try to run straight! Fun times with lots of stumbling and staggering!

Isaiah 51:21 says, “Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:“

God was going to show mercy and justice toward Israel, but the “drunken, but not with wine” description vividly pictures how much they were going through. Have you ever felt like you were just stumbling through life, barely able to put one foot in front of another even though you didn’t drink anything?

Maybe you wonder “Why’s everything so hard?” The Israelites had been suffering the consequences of rejecting God, consequences God designed to get their attention and bring them back to Him.

Other times, the Devil may be throwing stuff at you to try to stop you.

Either way, God wants to use it all to help you grow and become more like Jesus. Romans 8:29a says, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,“

So when life gets so hard you start to stumble, check with God. Ask Him if you’re going the right direction, and then keep going forward. It’s ok if it’s not a sprint full speed ahead. Slow, staggering steps in the right direction are better than running the wrong way any day.
