Some battles don’t matter. Others do.
In the epic fight between our puppy Brinkley and the water hose, I’m really not sure who won! But it sure was fun to watch!
The Apostle Paul had a purpose to fight for. In fact, he was working to help as many people as possible hear about Jesus and trust Jesus as their Savior. Because his battle mattered, he was willing to do any good thing he could to advance the cause. 1 Corinthians 9:22b says, “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
Because his battle mattered, he knew not to be sidetracked by less-important things. 1 Corinthians 9:26 says, “I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:” There are a ton of fights and causes we could join. There are a million ways we could spend our time today. Not every battle needs to be fought, at least not right now and at least not by us. Let’s do something of eternal value. Let’s do something that’s more than punching the air or biting at a water hose!
