Ever been there? Thankfully the girls were having fun pretending for this picture, but how often do kids (and teens and adults) act like that for real?!? It’s not enough just to be right; we also need to respond the right way if we want people to listen to us.
Matthew 12:19-20 describes Jesus this way: “He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.” Jesus stood up for truth and never once compromised or watered down His message. But He also contended for the truth with such love and compassion that many people were willing to listen to Him. They came face to face with the truth and had to decide for themselves what to do with Jesus. What a shame if we are so harsh and uncaring in our stand for truth that people never even hear our message.
No matter what our culture does, let’s stand for truth lovingly and compassionately. And let’s always start that stand in our own lives by consistently living out the truth.
