Be the Light…But How?

Steel Wool Photography: Apparently it’s a whole big thing! This was my first time ever trying to light the stuff on fire in a whisk and then spin it around to fling the sparks. Free tip: Don’t use the steel wool that has soap in it!🤦‍♂️

God tells us to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” but maybe you wonder HOW or else how to KEEP it shining and not let your light (and your life) burn out as fast as that steel wool did.

2 things had to happen for those sparks to shine: First, it had to be ignited. Second, the fire had to have fuel.

Matthew 25:1-4 says, “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.” There are different views on exactly what (and when) this parable is referring to, but there’s a clear application for each of us: Let’s make sure we’re ready to meet Jesus by being sure that we’ve begun a relationship with Him through faith; genuine faith fills our lives properly and enables us to shine brightly. Oil in the Bible often pictures the Holy Spirit. We permanently get the Holy Spirit in our life the moment we trust Jesus as Savior, but we need to make daily decisions to let Him have all of us, to fill us, so that we can be effective and not “burn out” as we try to shine the light.

Ephesians 5:18 says, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” We had to wash the soap out of that steel wool (and then dry the water) before it would burn brightly. What do you need to empty out of your life so that you can be filled with the Holy Spirit and have your light shine brightly today and every day?
