Some Things Aren’t Worth Experimenting with!

Yes that is a voltage meter and jumper cables in my daughters’ hands! We love a good experiment…but that equipment just isn’t something they are old enough to use yet! We kept the power off and everything unplugged because some things aren’t worth testing out to see what happens.

1 Samuel 5:2-3 says, “When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. 3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.” That false god soon fell again…and broke! After more consequences came, the Philistines were eager to send the ark away.

They did an experiment. They put the ark of the covenant, the place of God’s presence on earth at that time, in with their false god. They put the one true God up against their fake god, and the fake god lost. Badly! God is greater than anything or anyone else you and I could possibly live for. It’s not worth experimenting with other things.

Those Philistines saw the greatness, the superiority of the one true God, and wanted Him gone. They got rid of the interruption to their lives instead of allowing God to interrupt their worthless pursuits. Imagine the revival that could have, should have, broken out among those Philistines when they saw proof that our God is the real God! Imagine if they had gotten rid of their fake god and placed their faith in Jehovah God!

Imagine if you and I place our faith in Him as well—for our eternal salvation if we’ve never done that and then for every moment of every day after that! Imagine the revival that’ll break out in each of our lives if we stop experimenting with different things to see what might make us happy or fulfill us and instead turn to God consistently.
