Fake It Till You Make It???

Obviously that balloon’s seen better days…but it’s still smiling! Have you ever felt like that? As if you had to smile on the outside no matter what you were going through on the inside? There are times when we need to step up and keep going no matter what, but I’m thankful that there is also Someone who sees our hearts and allows us to let down our guard and be vulnerable.

In John 4, the Samaritan woman at the well was just trying to get some water, probably surprised that a Jew would even talk to her and definitely not expecting to get help for her real heart need. Putting on a brave front probably seemed like her only option as she tried to avoid people by going to the well at a time when no one else would typically be there. But Jesus was there and saw her deepest need.  Thankfully she eventually accepted Him into her life.

After Jesus took time to care and talk to her, John 4:25-26 says, “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”

Then in Verse 29, she invites other people to “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” Instead of trying to avoid people and act like everything was ok, now she’d gotten her deepest need met and is eager to tell others about Jesus.

We don’t have to smile through the pain or be fake with Jesus. We can come to Him with our real needs and get real solutions. Whether you need to be saved, need someone to know what you’re going through, or just need to spend some time with someone who cares, come to Jesus and be real with Him today.
