Keep Moving Forward or You’ll Drift Backward

Which roll of tape can stay up the longest on a spinning treadmill? I’ve seen this done on reels and always wanted to try it (and I haven’t been running on that treadmill much, so it might as well get some use!😏). Painter’s tape for the win! All 3 rolls were able to keep going for a bit, but they inevitably drifted backward (or fell off!).

In life we also have to keep moving forward or we are doomed to go backward. Exodus 14:15 says, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward.” The Israelites were at the edge of the Red Sea with an angry Egyptian army right behind them. They couldn’t stay where they were, but they had an uncertain path ahead of them. Thankfully they choose to trust God and move forward on what ended up being dry ground. The first step, the decision the move forward is often the most difficult…and the most important. The first step out of wrong choices, addiction, or a wrong relationship is tough, but it can be just what we need to move toward victory instead of drifting back into even more wrong choices.

Luke 4:13 says, “And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.” Jesus is God and can’t sin, but Satan only left Him “for a season.” He came back, and he does the same to us. It’s often right after success that we mess up the worst because we let our guard down and stop moving forward. Satan will come back and hit us with strong temptation right when we least expect it, but our God is ready. His help is available, and through Him we can have victory over sin and keep moving forward.
