Thanksgiving Part 3: I’m thankful for a never-ending source of strength!

Who has the best (or maybe worst) “I’m sick” face??? Even though she doesn’t feel well, Brooklyn couldn’t help but smile for her picture! We’re all doing ok, just a cold or some other virus (thankfully not the flu!). It’s amazing how a simple sickness can take it out of us, and I’m thankful that God not only heals but also offers strength that goes beyond whatever we’re dealing with.

God offers us strength that lasts no matter what life throws our way. Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that “the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Our joy comes from God not circumstances, and our strength can too! We can have joy—inner happiness based on our relationship with God—even when everything around us is going wrong because we know Jesus is in control and the best is yet to come. And we can have deep inner strength to keep us going no matter what because God sees everything we’re dealing with and sends enough strength for each day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 says, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” Our outward strength is low right now as we try to fight off this sickness, but we can stay strong because of Who is living in us. Nothing can take away our joy unless we give it away, and nothing can take away our God-given strength unless we walk away from the source of that strength.

Jen says I stop taking medicine too soon and let symptoms come back when I get sick. I’ll try not to do that this time, but it’s amazing how often we as Christians walk away from what works and then wonder why we become weak. The more we try to be strong enough on our own, the weaker we become. I’m thankful God gives us the opportunity to spend time with Him renewing our strength throughout each day.
