Just a short time apart! They paved the southbound lanes of Route 11 in front of our house (the right picture) not that long ago. And then they’re just finishing paving and painting lines on the northbound lanes…and yet the color is ALREADY really different! Even those beautiful red oak leaves will fade and be gone soon. I’m glad the Bible mentions some eternal things that never fade away.
Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” It’s so easy to live for really temporary things that don’t last long (What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on something that was gone or broken in less than a year? Also, how long have you waited for something that you ended up not even really liking?). The Bible won’t fade. It’ll keep mattering forever, and so will our lives if we live out what it says.
1 Peter 1:4 also promises Christians “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.” If you’re a Christian, you can look forward to all of eternity living with your Savior. Why not live for Him today?
