It’s been a while since we’ve hiked this trail, but we still remember the last time when Brooklyn was right beside a rattling rattlesnake!🐍 Thankfully the snake was trying to get away from her, and we were able to move in time. But you better believe we kept an extra close eye out for snakes on this hike!
The Bible is full of encouragement, advice, and warnings about what to watch out for, and it can be overwhelming to even know where to start. Maybe you’ve got an area or two in your life that you always need to keep a close eye on (If you’re anything like me, there’s more than just one or two areas on that list!). It can get frustrating trying to watch out for every temptation and danger, but thankfully Jesus gives us a great summary with only 2 things to get us started.
In Matthew 22:36, Jesus is asked, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?” His answer is very helpful: “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” That’s not everything we need to watch out for, but it’s a pretty good start. If we keep our relationship with God and our relationships with people right, we’ll be well on our way to avoiding spiritual dangers and living in a way that pleases God. Let’s keep God as our #1 priority and put others before ourselves. Those 2 things will help us avoid a ton of dangers.
