Keeping Them Safe and Away from Danger

It was a lot of fun to watch our girls learn to walk and to hold their hands and help them when they needed it. Even now I’ll still hold their hands to help keep them safe in a busy parking lot or while we walk across a tricky section of a hike, but other times I’ll let go and lead the way, showing them where to step.

Proverbs 3:21-23 says, “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes:

keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22 So shall they be life unto thy soul,

and grace to thy neck. 23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely,

and thy foot shall not stumble.” Sometimes God “holds our hand” spiritually, supernaturally guiding us and helping us avoid dangers. Other times, He leads the way through His Word by warning us about what to avoid.

The girls are old enough and strong enough to take their hands out of mine when they really want to. I don’t try to make them hold my hand except when they’ll otherwise be in danger, but I wonder how often we try to take our lives out of God’s grip. It’s much better to follow His leading and avoid spiritual danger. What Biblical warnings do you need to remember and follow today?
