What Do We Do When We Don’t Have Enough

Time, money, energy (coffee’s pretty much the same thing for a lot of us!): 3 things there’s often not enough of! Almost every single day, we’re faced with challenges where we don’t have enough: enough time, enough money, enough energy, enough ability...and we have a choice: Look to ourselves or to look to Jesus.

John 6 records the feeding of the 5,000, and verses 5-7 say, “When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.” Philip had a choice: Look at what he had or look to Jesus. Jesus used a little boy’s lunch to feed thousands (with food leftover), and thankfully Philip got to see what Jesus can do regardless of how little he had to offer Him.

I’m often reminded of the 4 second rule (no, it doesn’t have anything to do with dropped food!): If we see or think of something inappropriate, we have about 4 seconds to replace a bad thought with a good thought before it gets stuck in our heads. Throughout each day, we’ll face times when we need to quickly choose to trust Jesus instead of our own abilities and resources, to replace fear and doubt with trust and confidence. Let’s quickly turn to Jesus for the help and strength we need.
