If that Japanese beetle knew that he would never get out of the bag, he wouldn’t have taken the bait no matter how good it smelled! I made that DVD case years ago to illustrate how Satan creatively uses traps for us as well. We’d never be tempted by ant bait or Japanese beetle bait (at least I hope! 🤢), but we can be tempted by wrong movies or other wrong influences. But the last picture shows one of the most common temptations we fall for: The desire to be liked which can cause us to compromise with sin and seek the approval of others more than God‘s approval. Proverbs 29:25 warns us that “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
So who are you trying to please today? “You can’t please everyone” is often a true statement, but the good thing is we don’t have to. Let’s make sure we’re pleasing the One Whose opinion matters most. Instead of “taking the bait” and seeking the approval of other people, let’s live to please Jesus in everything today.
