Snow Drifts Just Keep Coming Back!

The snow really didn’t stick much to the church parking lot at first yesterday. And then the wind kicked up, and the snow drifts started! I enjoy hopping on the John Deere and pushing snow, and I cleared most of the drifts yesterday afternoon, but it didn’t take long for more to blow back in. By this morning, there was a lot more to push off again. You have to work hard constantly or snow drifts will come right back.

The same thing is true for temptation as well. Luke 4:13 says, “And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.” There’s a reminder for us all: Satan came back after leaving Jesus “for a season.” Jesus never sinned, but you and I need to keep our guard up: more temptation is coming.

1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” We need to stay on guard because the stakes are high: Satan doesn’t just want to mess our lives up a little; he wants to devour and destroy us. If we give the devil an inch, he will take a mile, but never forget that “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” as 1 John 4:4 says. Because I was out plowing the snow drifts this morning, I got to see that amazing sunrise! If we are willing to say no to sin, Satan, and temptation, God will help us and show us some amazing stuff along the way.
