How Do You Measure Up?

If I said my girls are 13 feet or 10 feet tall, you’d never believe me. Obviously you can tell how we got those wrong measurements, but in life, it’s easy to measure ourselves by the wrong standard.

In 1 Samuel 16, God sent Samuel to anoint the next king of Israel. Lots of big, tall guys were rejected. Instead God chose the much smaller brother, David, to become king even though he didn’t “measure up” to his brothers physically. 1 Samuel 16:7 tells us why: “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” So how do you measure up? Are you measuring your life, your success by God’s Word or some incorrect standard? Are you living for what matters most to God? You may be tall or talented, popular or successful, but nothing matters more than your heart toward God and the people He created and loves (and that’s everybody!).

Let’s let God get to the heart of our issues today and help us grow more like Jesus!
