Boundaries: Helpful or the worst thing ever?

Our dog hurt her leg about two and a half weeks ago. Praise God, she’s healing well, but she won’t leave the wound alone! Even the simple “boundary” of cone is nothing more than a challenge to be conquered. Yesterday, the vet took the last of her stitches out and put her in an EVEN BIGGER cone (or cone of shame as we call it!). Even though Bella needs to leave her leg alone so that it can heal, all she wants to do is bite the mess out of it whenever it hurts or itches! This is after less than an hour in the new, bigger cone at the vet! They replaced it, but she still found a way to bite her leg when she got home. The blood got cleaned up, a new bandage was put on, and some extra duct tape to make sure the cone won’t bend too much at the top (we taped part of the cone, not Bella, I promise!). Bella is fine, and I get why it’s hard for her to leave the hurting, itchy leg alone, but the “boundary” of her cone really is there for her good.

Through many vet appointments (and bills!), we’ve proven our love for our dog a lot lately. Have you ever wondered how you can prove your love for God? He proved His love for us by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, rise again, and offer us eternal salvation. We can’t ever earn our salvation, but if you’ve accepted His offer of eternal life, you can prove your love and thankfulness to God. 1 John 5:3 says, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” God puts rules and principles in place FOR OUR GOOD, and we can show Him how much we love Him by obeying Him and letting Him lead our lives. So the next time you “get the itch” to yet again break one of God’s rules, remember that His rules are there to protect us not ruin our fun.
