What do you think: would you eat those pancakes? Maybe you think they look good on the outside. Maybe you even think what’s inside them sounds good! Whatever you like with (or in) your pancakes, I think we’d all agree: for a pancake to be “just right,” it needs to be delicious inside and out.
Psalms 51:6 says, “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.” The prophet Nathan had confronted David’s outward actions after David committed adultery and murder, and David knew he also had to fix the inside issue, his heart issue. He needed to repent of his wrong thoughts and wrong desires as well as his wrong actions.
I love the assurance in Psalm 51:7: “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” Sinning often makes it easier to sin more, and we can quickly find ourselves in a bad downward spiral. It can be tempting to just try to “fake it” on the outside to make people happy or stay out of trouble. But God wants to forgive us, to make us clean inside and out. I hope you’ve experienced His ultimate forgiveness by accepting His offer of salvation, and as Christians, we can come to God to get cleaned up spiritually any time we need to. Let’s accept God’s help and live clean inside and out. Pancakes for breakfast tomorrow?
Some Extra Bible Reading I Try to Do Each Day
Psalm 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? 2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. 3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. 4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. 5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
